Lady Prime Went 11 Weeks Undefeated. Then People Stopped Signing Up.

July 29, 2009 by CashAmp · 47 comments

This is not a story Lady Prime tells. It is a story six other people told us, and then she confirmed the parts she could not avoid confirming.

Eleven consecutive Wednesdays at the Basement on Mass Ave, undefeated. Then, in the twelfth week, the sign-up sheet came back with one name on it. Then it happened again. Then a third time.

What The Other Side Says

We talked to six people who went against her during the run. Four were straightforward about it: they lost, it was not close, they were not eager to repeat it. One said he would go again "on a better night," which he has now had eleven opportunities to do.

The sixth refused to talk about it entirely, which is its own kind of answer.

"The sheet was empty for three weeks straight. I'm not the problem." — Lady Prime

The Battle Thing

Does the battle background make the records better or worse?
Better. Everything I write is arguing with somebody. Even when it ain't.
Arguing with who?
Whoever thinks I can't.

"Prime Time" is one take with no cuts, three minutes and eleven seconds, no missed words. DJ Krisis ran sound and confirms there were no punch-ins. He also volunteered that it was the fourth attempt, and she would like everyone to know the first three were the camera.
