EXCLUSIVE: B. Stacks On The New Album, Leaving Haughville, And Almost Quitting
B. Stacks has been declining interview requests from this site since 2006. He agreed to this one in July on the condition that we do it at his kitchen table after midnight, which is when he does everything else. It ran two hours and forty minutes. This is about a third of it.
The Drawer
He still has it. He would not go get it during the interview and he would not say whether he has looked at it recently.
The Beat
For the record, we asked Tone Deep about this in July. He did not mention it. He has never mentioned it to anybody. We only know because Stacks told us.
The Notebooks
He writes longhand, in composition notebooks, and has filled fourteen of them. He will not record before midnight. He gets visibly irritated when asked why and he got visibly irritated here.
"The recorder changes it. You start performing being honest instead of being honest."
Haughville
The building is the Sherman Ave warehouse. Demolition starts next month. He did not know that when he wrote most of it.
